Thoughts on Lieberman - Lamont

I think RightWingNews has many good points on this, like http://www.rightwingnews.com/archives/week_2006_08_06.PHP#006213

Some practical facts:

  • Lieberman was a core Democrat - their VP less than six years ago, a 90+ % Democrat voting record, never stabbed another Democrat, always supportive of the party, etc...
  • Lamont is a rookie, extreme liberal, initially endorsed by Kos & Moore.

This has got to hurt the Democrats, it shows a blatant schism in their ranks that their own VP candidate gets booted by a rookie because Joe wasn't liberal enough and supported the Iraq war? That Lieberman is still running, and has a better chance to actually win the general election, makes it even worse. That it forces Democrats in a no-win decision is even more worse:

  • If they support Lamont - They're affirming an extreme liberal, rookie and tearing down one of their own senior veterans.
  • If they support Lieberman - They're seen as not affirming the will of Connecticut Democrats

Meanwhile, it's hard to blame this on Bush, so I'm not sure what else the Dems will do.

Real motive for Liberal's environmentalism?

Conservatives are trying to do good things, such as win the war on terror and stimulate the economy. These things require manufacturing, which “hurts the environment”. For example, liberals oppose almost anything that would lower gas prices, such as ANWR drilling, opening new refineries, investing in Nuclear power, etc… because it “hurts the environment.” They then blame conservatives for high gas prices. It makes me wonder if Liberal’s real motives aren’t to protect the environment, but rather to deprive Conservatives the tools needed to successfully do the job.

Cindy Sheehan's influence

I saw another article about Cindy Sheehan grasping on to her 15 minutes of fame. It makes me wonder – if she could not even convince her own son to leave Iraq, why does she expect to change the mind of anyone else?
